is 2005 Syrah McDowell Valley (from vines planted in both 1911 and 1945) exhibits similar intensity, with a saturated ruby/purple color and notes of bacon fat, blueberry, and blackberry as well as a hint of licorice. The wine possesses an expressive nose of gunflint, wet smoke, black fruit and nicoise olives. Pure rich flavors are long with dark chocolate, minerals, dried black and red fruit and garrigue nuances that fold into long mouth filling finish. Surely good now but another year in bottle and it should drink well for the next several years.
