2011 Bedrock Syrah North Coast$29.95 -- 2011 Bedrock Syrah North CoastPurchase 2011 Bedrock Syrah North Coast Winemaker's Notes “In 2011 I decided to take the painful step of declassifying both Alder Springs and Hudson T Syrah into a North Coast Syrah bottling along with Shanel Vineyard, a trace of Griffis Lair, and a dollop of Viognier from Steiner Ranch on Sonoma Mountain. The end result is a more complete wine, dare I say the best QPR Syrah bottling I have released, but it certainly makes for a slim margin! Alder Springs, which was harvested on Oct. 31st at 21.6 brix, adds lovely high tone perfume, while the Hudson fills out the mid palate and contributes its usual savage, animal character. Shanel was all pepper and anise. Add the mountain flowers of Steiner Vio and you have got yourself a killer wine. Though I liked the 2009, loved the aromatics on the 2010, this is the most complete introductory bottling Bedrock has released.” – Morgan Twain-Peterson Critical Acclaim “The 2011 Syrah is drop-dead gorgeous. Black olives, pepper, spices, cedar, tobacco and incense all emerge from this exotic, intensely perfumed wine. Bedrock’s 2011 Syrah is a stunning wine for the money. At $21 a bottle, it offers tons of varietal character and plenty of personality. Wow! The 2011 includes declassified fruit from Alder Springs, Hudson T Griffins Lair and a touch of Viognier from Steiner Ranch. It all adds up to an absolutely beautiful wine at a very friendly price. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018.” – 91 Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate “Dark purple. Vibrant, spice-accented dark berry aromas
show very good clarity and focus. Juicy,
penetrating blackberry and bitter cherry flavors gain flesh with air and pick
up a suave floral pastille nuance. Sweet
and seamless on a finish that features soft tannins and a zesty, peppery
kick. This wine delivers superb value.”
