Q. I don't really have a great place to store my wine, but because I live far away from a town with a fine wine shop I buy my wine from California wine three times a year. Are the bottles I bought a year ago still OK? - George L.
A. The length of time isn't nearly as important as the variance in temperature your wine goes through. A stable year around 57F would be ideal. As long as you're not planning on long term storage I'm sure your wine is still fine. You should however take precautions over where you store your wine regardless of how long you keep it. Keep wine away from sunlight or heat. On top of the refrigerator is a terrible place. Look for an even-tempered location, such as the bottom of a dark interior closet or a cool basement, if a cellar isn't available. Just keep your wine away from temperature shifts and short-term storage won't affect your enjoyment.
